What Fighting The Darkness Within Has Taught Me

Life is to be learned from constantly. There is a constant battle we wage daily against the darkness that surrounds us and lives within us. Sometimes we are witnesses to battles fought by others. More often, we are the ones fighting.

Here is where I hope my words can capture what my heart has seen.

I have learned that in order to fully heal, the wound needs to be exposed out loud. It is frightening to share things that have hurt us or the choices we have made, but it is necessary. There is a powerful catharsis that takes place when we verbalize what is in our hearts.

We CANNOT go through life alone. God places people in our lives that help us. It is their gifts and abilities that He has given them that allow them to help us…if we let them. We are all those people and have the ability to bless the lives of all around us.

As much as we pile strength and positive thoughts on top of an underlying lie we haven’t exposed, it always manifests itself one way or another. These lies limit us, holding us back from those things that we want. They need to be exposed and our hearts need to be healed.

Fear is the ultimate destructor of our ability to heal. When we are afraid of what others will think of us or we are scared of the reprocussions, we do not do what it takes to heal. FAITH is the ONLY way to heal. Faith gives us courage to open up and know that in spite of everything, we are going to be much better off on the other side.

Looking back will never allow you to move forward. In fact, it is a lot like Lot’s wife. Every time we look back and give emotion to the past, part of our hearts turn to salt. It is essential to learn from history, ours especially. It is even more vital that we take what we learn and MOVE FORWARD. Dwelling on past mistakes gives the darkness power.

Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are constantly fighting for us. They give us the strength to face the darkness, expose its lies, and move forward. Only they can heal us completely. And they are always ready when we reach out to them. They give us the weapons we need. They bind up our wounds and heal us. To Them WE ARE EVERYTHING.

I am grateful to learn. I am grateful for every experience in my life that has taught me these valuable lessons. I am grateful to KNOW whose I am. I am grateful to know that I can change and become.

Limiting God

Sometimes I truly hope I can express what is going on inside. As much as I want to be able to translate the feelings of my heart and the lessons I am learning into words, I find I am not as skilled as I would like to be. Refinement comes through action, so here we go.

Last week I had a gut check of faith. Acting on inspiration from Heaven, our family has sold our home and purchased a spec home in another town. It will take a few weeks for this home to be completed, so we are staying with my kind parents in the meantime. After all of the chaos of packing and moving, we settled into their home and the stillness settled in. I am learning that I do not do well sitting still.

My mind started to race and think about why we were moving and doubts began to creep in. The adversary is quite skilled because these thoughts didn’t feel like doubts, they felt like legitimate ideas. One idea would lead to another and to another until my mind was racing and I had forgotten all of the miracles that had led us to where we were buying our home. Fear set into my heart and I could not see my way forward.

After a sleepless night, I found myself on a car ride with my husband where I shared all that was going on in my heart and soul. He patiently listened to all of my concerns and never once told me that I was wrong. Instead he took me out to the house we are buying. To be honest, I did not want to be there. I had truly convinced myself that it was not where we were supposed to be, so it was the last place I wanted to be.

He found a bucket, put his jacket on it (he is a true gentleman) and sat me down. Through inspiration from God, he reminded me of everything that had happened to bring us there. We had offers on two other homes, but neither worked out. We were NOT going to look for a home in this particular town, but it was the only one we liked. New construction/spec homes were never anything we considered, yet it was the one that felt the best. After we put an offer on it, all of the paths began to open to get us there. It truly has been one miracle after another. He told me to rejoice and let God show me why we are supposed to be there. It will always be a special moment to me.

After a good amount of sleep, my heart was healed and I began to see things as they are.

I had allowed fear to take over and hold me back from an amazing adventure and opportunity for our family. Rather than using fear to drive me forward, I had let it hold me back. We have never been able to see the whole reason for why we have moved in the past, because the experiences have shaped us one at a time. I had forgotten this.

I realized that my fears and doubts limited the power of God in my life. They had became the barriers that restrained inspiration, joy and strength that would drive me forward.

Yet, the moment I turned to Him and Jesus Christ through prayer and talking to my husband, they were right there. There wasn’t a hesitation on their part. It was as if they were waiting for me to invite them to help me take down the walls I had built.

In moments of reflection, I see how much their power was limited because of me. Rather than submit, I chose to let fear to take over. In fear, I felt defeated, overwhelmed, tired, impatient, weak, defiant, stagnant.

As soon as I let Them in, I began to feel creative, hopeful, peaceful, receptive, powerful, centered.

Which led me to the question… Are there more places in life where I limit God?

Yes.

The power comes in recognizing them to overcome. It takes courage to face the walls we have built with our fears and doubts. It takes more strength than we have to tear them down on our own. The incredible moments come when we accept help and allow His power to manifest in our lives. It is always humbling to see how much He knows us and loves us.

Healing My Limitations

healingAt one point in my life I was a runner. I loved the freedom I felt as I found a steady rhythm that match my music and soul. Not only did I find strength in my body, but I found strength in my mind as I would let go.

One day I experienced a pain like no other pain I had felt. It seemed like there was a knife cutting through the side of my knee. No matter how much I worked at it, I could not run through this pain.

I spent many years trying different types of shoes, thinking there was a magical pair that would heal my knee. I worked at stretching, interval running, strengthening and so forth. There never was a long term solution, so I simply ‘accepted’ the fact that I was not to run anymore.

My heart has wanted to run so many times, especially now that we live in an area where it is safe to run. Not only is it safe, it is incredibly beautiful.

I have been pondering this knee pain and the limitation I felt it had put in my life. I decided last week that I would return to running, one way or another, I would run again.

It is amazing how Heavenly Father orchestrates our lives. When we have a desire in our hearts, it seems as though life aligns to realize it.

I am now one belt away from earning my black belt in karate. This is has been a journey in and of itself. One of the requirements is running. When I heard this my heart dropped and my body went into ‘you can’t because of your knee’ mode. I felt it so profoundly in every part of me. I felt the power the limitation had over me.

With a background in Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine, I ran through all of the scenarios in my mind of this chronic knee pain. I couldn’t find a solution that would work for me. I hate that more than anything, because I feel so trapped.

Today I decided I would get on the treadmill, no matter what. I am not going to let this win. My husband started to challenge my thoughts of being limited by ‘knee pain’. He wouldn’t let me make any excuses or allow anything that resembled limited thinking. He knows just the right buttons to push to get me thinking and moving forward (I will say that as I stepped on the treadmill I had a growl in my head).

As I began to run, I focused my thoughts on healing and strength. I found a gait that was so comfortable, a pace that was perfect and a rhythm that spoke to my soul. I could feel fearful knee pain thoughts creeping in. I decided not to allow them access to my mind, body and soul. As I fought them off, I felt myself relax and enjoy the little journey I was on.

That short little run was one of the most healing experiences I have had. My self-imposed limitations had affected my body to such a degree that I was not able to do something that I truly love. Healing that limitation and turning it into a freedom was so powerful to my mind, body and soul.

Our minds are a gift from Heavenly Father. There is so much power that lies within them…power to become incredible or nothing at all. It is all in how we choose to exercise this power. Today I chose to let it heal me.

Out Of Breath

file8851274473595I am sure we have all experienced days when we feel like we are out of breath the entire day. We run and run and can’t seem to catch up on what we are ‘trying’ to accomplish that day.

For the past few weeks I have experienced this more often than not. It is as though there is something or someone sitting on my chest, making breathing as difficult as humanly possible. I get it, but I don’t like it.

With everything that life hands to us to accomplish, grow from and experience it is very understandable that overwhelmed pokes its head into the windows of our souls. This little guest is just there. Sometimes I find myself shutting down when it comes, other times I find myself in sprint mode….working like mad to get everything accomplished, taken care of, folded, cleaned, shopped for, dressed, showered, exercised, listened to, worked through, and maintained. More For Moms

fieldFor over a year my husband and I have been working to find a ‘niche’ to help as many people as we could. With the journey we have been on, we have wanted to use the talents and gifts we have received from Heavenly Father, life and education. We have researched many possibilities, and yet, the answer was so close to home.

My husband is a talented hypnotherapist, teacher and coach. He is so gifted at giving people the opportunity to grow within themselves by overcoming things that have been holding them back. His ability to teach is truly a gift from Heaven, because it comes so naturally to him. He is such a great blessing to me and our children.Continue reading “More For Moms”

Belief

This is an incredible blog post about belief and the power it has in our lives. I love how he describes both sides of belief. It is a power for good. On the other hand it is a power that can hold us back from everything we want to achieve and become.  It is reblogged from: http://www.hypnotherapyfreemind.com/power-of-belief/

4 Principles of The Power of Belief

The power of belief is a force that is all encompassing in your life. In fact, it is the power behind EVERYTHING in your life. Your level of happiness and satisfaction is directly proportional to your belief. Believe it or not, it is also the power that is behind the things that frustrate you and keep you discouraged. Yes, belief is the driving power fueling just about everything in your life.

Have you ever said that you didn’t believe in something? Maybe someone told you news that seemed impossible? Or that you were not prepared to hear?

I want to share with you a message about belief…

Even when you think you don’t believe, you still do. Let’s peel back the covers on belief a little more and show you how this works. With that realization, you can use this powerful gift in your life to accomplish whatever you choose.

1. Belief Is The Source Of All Power For Good

Belief has two definitions. They are: (1) an acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists and (2) trust, faith, or confidence in someone or something.

You probably have a positive association of the word belief. When I think of belief, I think of things like faith, miracles, and optimism…all of which are positive things. When you are successful in life, it is because you lead with your belief. You believe that the new venture will be successful. You believe that you are going to succeed with your children. You believe that the new opportunity at work will be a good opportunity. You believe that the relationship will work out and be for the greatest good.

As you believe that it will be successful, that is what happens. If you didn’t have the belief that it was going to turn out for your good, you wouldn’t have done it to begin with. Instead of moving forward, you would have done nothing.

Which brings us to the next point…

2. Belief Is The Source Of All Negative Power

While that may seem like a strange statement, it is absolutely true.

You may believe that you are not good enough. You may believe that you are not smart enough, or that events of your past were your fault. You may believe that your worst fears will come true, or that if something bad is going to happen, it will happen to you. You place all of your belief in these negative things and that is exactly what happens.

Your belief ends up being the ultimate self-fulfilling prophecy.

You have heard the expression that says whether you think you can or you think you can’t…you are right. I would suggest that you rephrase the statement like this…

Whether you believe that you can or believe that you can’t…you are right.

3. Your Lack Of Belief Is Holding You Back More Than Anything

As my clients come to me for help in changing their behaviors, they find that their lack of belief is holding them back.

The person that is suffering with grief believes that they cannot heal and overcome. The person that needs to lose weight believes that this next diet will end up like the last one…it won’t work. Or, the person that doesn’t allow hypnotherapy to teach them to heal their mind because they believe that hypnosis doesn’t work.

In all of these cases, the lack of belief is keeping you from everything you want.

Think about the people who have achieved great things in life:

  • Christ accomplished miracles through his belief that they would happen
  • Edison believed he could find a way to make the light bulb work in spite of his many previous failed attempts
  • Columbus believed that the world was round in spite of the persecution of everyone else
  • Michael Jordan believed he had more talent than the coach that cut him from the high school team

I could go on for quite some time with more examples and you have examples that mean a lot to you personally. The whole point is that their belief drove them to the success they desired. Their belief allowed them to achieve and succeed in spite of those around them that didn’t want them to succeed.

Belief is the power principle behind success.

4. How Do You Believe When You Feel Like You Can’t?

How do you find belief when everything around you is causing you to doubt? How can you push forward when forces push you back? The key to believing is found in children….

They simply just believe

They don’t allow what they don’t know to shroud what they believe. They believe in Santa, Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, Boogeyman, and all kinds of things. In fact, if you tell a young child that there are green aliens outside the door, they will believe you.

Their belief powers their actions. It creates a sparkle in their eye. It keeps them moving forward and searching for answers. Their greatest strength is their belief

And that is the irony. There are those that think that belief is weakness. They believe that it is to foolishness to accept and believe in something that cannot be seen. They assume that because it isn’t seen…”it doesn’t exist.”

As a result, those people stay stuck in their life. They don’t think they can overcome their self-limiting thoughts because it doesn’t make sense. They simply believe that believing doesn’t work. What they don’t recognize is that…

Their “unbelief” is still belief

They just believe in a negative outcome. It is the exact same power that people use to believe and achieve great things.

What About You?

With these 4 principles about the power of belief, the question is how are you going to use this? Will you believe to accomplish the great things that you are destined to do? Will you believe that there is healing? Will you believe that there are ways to overcome?

If you find that believing is not possible, then I would recommend hypnotherapy. It will help you eliminate those self-limiting thoughts so that you can believe again.

The power of belief is always active in your life. The true question you have to ask yourself is “What do I believe in?”

I believe in you. I watch people use this power to overcome fear, become “good enough”, control pain, lose weight, stop smoking, and completely transform their lives. Belief is the power that will set you free. It will help you accomplish your life purpose…your highest good.

These 4 principles of belief will determine your end result.

Great things have never been accomplished by believing less. The solution is to believe more.

Undaunted

This morning I woke up feeling truly grateful for the incredibleDSCN1076 husband I have been blessed with. He is simply amazing.

For over a year I have watched him fight relentlessly against a foe that has neither face nor form. One that would steal all that he is if he allowed it. And yet, he does not.

I have never seen someone work so hard to become who he is meant to be. It is a lesson that I strive to take within my heart and one I pray that our children will understand. His deep desire to simply be the best he can is inspiring to all who are blessed to know him.

There is not a day that goes by that he is not learning, moving forward. If he is faced with a problem that he is not currently able to solve, he finds a way to do it. It is impressive to see the amount of knowledge he has gained and is able to share with others. He is one of the most gifted teachers I have ever seen. It is beautiful to watch him break down what he knows and allow another to find what they are searching for.

I have watched him find healing as he has been blessed to help others. He sees the best in those around him and can bring it out with a few simple words. From a distance, I have seen people come to him who are defeated, broken and lost. I have watched them leave victorious, whole and found. It is like witnessing small miracles. He is a healer.

I know there are moments within that he does not feel like he can take another step. Yet, in spite of it all, he gets up and moves forward. He is the strength of our family. He is my rock.

I am in awe of how undaunted he is. I am blessed to be his.

Barefoot Healing

A few weeks back I did a great job injuring my ankle….black, blue, green and huge are great descriptive words. Can I say I truly dislike being injured? There is nothing fun about it. One thing I have DSCN1171learned is how much I appreciate being well and whole.

After this injury, I decided I could not stop working out daily. This is to protect my family as well as my sanity. Working out to me is purpose, cleansing and challenging. I need this at least 6 days a week. It is necessary to my survival. Unfortunately I could not put on my shoes. Fat ankle = fat foot.Continue reading “Barefoot Healing”

The River

file0001978463429Tonight as I was kissing my sweet girl goodnight, I turned on her sleep music. It is a spiritual playlist. It creates a wonderful feeling in her room as she is falling into that wonderful world of sleep. One of my favorite songs came on, The River by Meredith Andrews. She has a beautiful voice that enables this message to travel to my soul.Continue reading “The River”

Healing

file0001628333441On Friday my son and I went to our karate class. I love our studio, because it doesn’t matter how old you are, you can do anything. So here I am, close to 40 years old, hanging out with a bunch of young kids learning how to do B-twists and back handsprings. It is totally a blast.

After one back handspring (I kept forgetting to bring my legs over, so I get a really nice stretch), I landed and jumped (it was exciting that I remembered my legs this time). As I came down I rolled my ankle out pretty good. Instant pain shot up my leg and I almost forgot how to walk. Wow. I haven’t done something this special since I played soccer in college. There was an instant ballooning and beautiful coloring of the ankle.Continue reading “Healing”
